SERVICES

The Chatham Kent Women's Centre is here to assist you any time of day or night. We offer our services to ALL women of Chatham Kent. Please call us to arrange an appointment in your community.

The 24-HOUR CRISIS LINE offers a counsellor's support, information, and referrals to other helping agencies for women who are in crisis or for women who may have a question. Please do not hesitate to call.

We have a 27 bed
SHELTER for abused women and their children. Women are admitted to the shelter anytime of day or night. Do not be afraid to call us for more information. We know it is a big decision to make. To see what our shelter looks like, or are wondering what it would be like to stay at the shelter, check out our faqs.

SUPPORTIVE COUNSELLING is provided for women staying in the shelter and for women in the community. We have outreach offices in communities all across Chatham Kent. Please phone us to arrange an appointment in your community. We understand that transportation is a barrier to receiving services, and will do our best to meet your needs.

ADVOCACY is an essential aspect of our services. You are not alone in your struggle. We will assist you in obtaining the best possible legal advice, finding safe childcare and schooling for your children, acquiring safe and appropriate housing, as well as act as a liaison between you and many other community agencies.

CHILDREN'S COUNSELLING and GROUPS are an excellent resource that allows your child to process the difficulties faced by their family. Children must be away from the abuser in order to receive counselling. This is to ensure your child's safety. Although it is encouraged, Mothers do not need to be in counselling for their children to receive counselling, or be in a children's group.

MOTHER'S GROUPS run in conjunction with the children's groups. These groups allow Moms to discuss the difficulties associated with being an abused woman and a mother. It gives Mothers information and support, allowing them to regain confidence in their parenting abilities.

WOMEN'S GROUPS are available for women to share their experiences around abuse, gain information on regaining control of their lives, and develop empowering friendships. We offer a Monday night 10-week group that gives newcomers an introduction to the group experience. We also run a Tuesday night and a Thursday afternoon group. It is recommended that you meet with the group facilitator to ensure your needs can be met by the group environment.

The Women's Centre assists women to re-establish in the community through our
TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND SUPPORT program.

PUBLIC EDUCATION is an important part of the solution to ending woman abuse. We offer presentations to schools, youth groups, service groups, workplaces - anyone in the community who is interested in learning about woman abuse and how they can help.
